Since its founding as a colonial town in the 1600s, Providence has evolved and grown.  It's changed industries has had several architectural face lifts, all while it's population grew and evolved with it. Our city’s streets, buildings, and even our canal, all have stories to tell about their past lives and adventures. Hop on board for this scenic tour of Providence’s downtown, you’ll get to peek into the surprising past of some of our city’s landmarks, and marvel at the transformations of others.

 

Landmarks include America’s first indoor mall, Providence’s iconic Superman building, The Dean Hotel and many more.

Art in the Creative Capital

Providence is home to a vibrant artist community, evidence of which can be found in all corners of the city.  Art can be found on every corner if you know where to look.  Join us for an insider’s guide to art in Providence - an opportunity to see the incredible art around town and to learn about the institutions and organizations that make it all happen.

 

We’ll visit Art Windows  (Providence’s innovative program which fills empty storefronts with the work of local artists), ride past murals, and explore the marvelous architecture of our city’s historic theaters. Stops include AS220, Big Nazo Labs, Providence Performing Arts Center and more.

Providence has a long and storied history stretching back centuries.   Join us for a scenic tour of some of our city’s oldest and most beautiful buildings. We’ll explore the history and architecture of the public spaces where decision makers, worshippers, picnickers and tourists have gathered over the course of this city’s almost four-hundred-year history.

 

This tour will take you on a scenic sojourn along the river.  Check out the Old State House.  See the Capitol Building , the City Hall, downtown's beautiful Public library, and Burnside Park.

Find out the seedy history of Providence's hippest new hotel,  The Dean.

H.P. Lovecraft, Cormac McCarthy (the athor of No Country for Old Men and The Road), and Christopher Denise (the ollustrator for the Redwall series) are all from Providence.  Natalie Babbitt (author of Tuck Everlasting), Edgar Allan Poe, and Avi all lived in Providence at one point in there writing careers.

All tours are available during our regular hours Wed-Sun, 5 PM – 12 AM*. Any tour requests outside of our regular pedicab hours can be booked with advance notice (3 + days). Tours will be cancelled and rescheduled in the event of rain. 

 

Rates (for up to 2 adults or 3 adults/kids):

Half-hour tour: $40

One hour tour: $70
